Frequently Asked Questions

Once you go to the Chiropractor, do you have to go the rest of your life?

Dr McGinnis will teach you how to take care of yourself so you can maintain your health with the least amount of professional intervention. Even though I haven't had a dental problem in 10 years, my dentist keeps me coming back for checkups. Chiropractors fix problems and then they do their best to keep new ones from developing. Chiropractic is preventative care. And even when you feel great, an occasional checkup keeps you functioning at your best. So to answer the question….”Only if you want to stay Healthy”

Does chiropractic hurt?

If the area involved is sensitive, the point of the body that we adjust can be sore for a moment. Usually, people with acute conditions feel relief within minutes of their adjustment. Most often there is no pain whatsoever, and most patients look forward to their adjustments.

How long does it take?

The initial exam takes about 1 1/2 hours. Each treatment can take up to 20 minutes. Each visit you will receive your adjustment. Some visits take longer if the type of treatment changes or additional procedures need to be done.

How many visits does it take?

This depends on your particular condition. Dr. McGinnis will better be able to predict how many visits are necessary after your first examination.

Is chiropractic safe?

A recent study concluded that injury related to chiropractic adjustment was less than 1.25 incidents per million treatments. It is interesting to note serious complications from aspirin ingestion were 3,000 per one million patients. Chiropractic was deemed one of the most conservative forms of intervention available today.

How much does it cost?

Our exam runs from $35 to $90 depending on the complexity of your case. X-rays are $125. There is no charge for Dr. McGinnis to interpret the results and no charge for a Report of Findings. Individual visits run from $41 to $54 dollars depending on the severity of your case. If you insurance does not cover chiropractic, we have a payment plan that fit most people's budget.

What are Subluxations and How are They Treated?

A Vertebral Subluxation consists of five different components: Improper spinal structure resulting in loss of normal motion (Spinal Kinesiopathology); Nerve Compression (Neuropathophysiology); Muscular imbalance or weakness (myopathology); Inflammation or soft tissue damage (Histopathology); and/or Spinal Degeneration (Pathophysiology). Subluxations affect specific spinal joints and can be corrected with specific and gentle spinal manipulation.

That’s the technical stuff. Now to keep it simple a Subluxation is when a vertebra shifts and then causes pressure or irritation to a nerve or surrounding tissue. This then leads to pain and malfunction in your body.

How Do I Know If Chiropractics Can Help Me, Or If I Have a Subluxation?

First, the Chiropractor will perform a thorough chiropractic, orthopedic and neurological exam. This involves a complete health history to determination if Chiropractic treatment is recommended, or if a referral to another specialist is indicated.

How Long Will Chiropractic Treatment Take?

The length of Chiropractic treatment is dependent upon each individual. The nature and extent of trauma, spinal health, environmental factors, stress, etc. Each patient is prescribed an individual treatment plan as needed. Our patients are very active in making individual choices with their care.

What is a Chiropractic Adjustment ?

A Chiropractic adjustment is a specific, yet gentle, controlled force to an immovable or fixated joint (Subluxation). The goal is to restore proper functioning of a spinal segment to reduce pain and increase mobility. I am  trained in  many different  techniques, each of these techniques is different, and very effective, when customized to a patient’s individual needs.

What Type of Education Does a Chiropractic Physician Have?

Chiropractors are well educated. After a broad science foundation in undergraduate education, an additional four years of graduate study with emphasis of anatomy, neurology, physiology, pathology, radiology, and functional biomechanics, as well as spinal adjusting techniques, are all required. Chiropractors are required to pass extensive state board examinations before licensure will be accepted. Chiropractors are required to attend annual continuing education studies to renew licensure.
